My dad is famous!

This past week Mal became the third host of a podcast called Christian Gamers 2.0. He really enjoyed getting to talk about video games, movies, and his faith. He will be doing the podcast every Sunday night and I think it is available to download from itunes every Monday. It is a great outlet for him. Jonas is trying on his daddy's headset to see if he wants to be on a podcast.

thoughts from the heart

As I was digging up bricks in the back yard I noticed something in the corner of the yard. We have some plants (tulips maybe...) growing and one of them is growing right through a hole in a piece of cement block. It really made me think - Wow! That plant really wants to grow - it is finding any way it can to push through that little hole to find the sun. I think that is how Christ wants us to be - striving toward Him - even when there are obstacles in our life that seem to get in the way - we need to keep our focus on the Son. Just like He created that plant to grow - we also, were created to grow.

Happy Easter Eve!

The weather is so beautiful today! I decided to do a little bit of yard work...and when I say a little bit - I mean a LITTLE bit. We have a small backyard but it has all kinds of bricks randomly dispersed and half buried - so I began digging them up. I would like to make a brick path from our "gazebo" (don't know what else to call it) to the back porch door. However, as I began digging new holes for the bricks I realized we have a lot of roots in our back yard and I don't know how I am going to dig into all of them. I am exhausted just thinking about it! Any ideas? Other than hiring someone to come and do it - I would love to do that but it isn't in the budget right now.

The 3 day rule update

Ok - I'm a believer in the 3 day rule. The third night Jonas went to sleep right away in his crib and stayed asleep until it was time for him to eat. Then last night (the 4th night) he slept for 6 and a half hours - missing his middle of the night feeding. I think he looks forward to his bedtime routine and seems to know it is time to go to bed. He has started kicking his feet in the bathtub - getting more confident and enjoying it more. It is so cute! He is such a good baby - he even seems more satisfied and happier during the day. We are looking forward to our first Easter with him!

The 3 day rule

Well, we all survived me being back at work for 2 weeks and now I have spring break! I have big plans...1) spending time with my boys 2) spring cleaning 3) getting Jonas on a schedule (that includes sleeping in his crib in his room).
Mimi gave us this great book called The Moms On Call Guide To Basic Baby Care. This has been the best book for us! Everyone says babies don't come with an instruction book - but this is as close as I have found and we refer to it almost daily. I should have it memorized by now but the brain cells haven't quite regenerated as fast as I thought they would from being pregnant.
The three day rule is getting the baby to sleep in his own room using a bath time and bed time routine. So we started our three days on Sat. night. Jonas cried for an hour (with mommy and daddy checking on him every 10 min.) and a few tears from mommy before he fell asleep for 5 and a half hours. Then last night was our second night. He fell asleep right away but then woke up about an hour and a half later crying and crying. After checking on him a couple of times - he was sleeping again. But last night he definitely woke up more often than the night before. We are trying to get him to eat and sleep around the same time everyday. I think this will be helpful for all of us. Hopefully tonight will be easier...it's the third day!
The swing is his FAVORITE place to take a nap. It has magic powers - whenever he gets in it he falls right asleep and stays asleep for hours (if we let him). We call it the magic swing!

BMOC

Jonas got to hang out with me after school today at a teacher's meeting. He was so popular! What a charmer! He gets it from his dad...
In the past few weeks Jonas has started cooing - it is so cute to hear him "talking" and he has discovered his tongue (he moves it all around - entertaining himself).
TODAY Jonas rolled from his stomach to his back 3 times. I missed it! :( Daddy daycare sent me a picture and text - the next best thing - I guess...

Good times and not so good times

Good times:
This past week we were able to reconnect with some friends we haven't seen in a while. It was so fun to meet their baby and introduce our baby to them. We really hope they will move back to Chattanooga and to our neighborhood!

Not so good times:
Jonas had to get his shots this week. We went on Tues. and he got 2 shots - we had never seen our little baby experience pain like that - his face turned bright redish purple and he screamed like never before. Poor baby! But to make matters worse - they were out of the 3rd shot - so I had to take him back on Sat. The second time he was so brave and barely cried at all.

a dose of reality

This week I have gone back to teaching first grade while Mal stays home with Jonas. Mal has been able to work out an afternoon and evening shift with his work until summer. He says he has "Daddy daycare". It has been a hard week - physically (no more napping when the baby naps for me) and emotionally ( I just hate being away from him for so long each day). Mal does such a great job with him and I call every chance I get to hear about their day. I am so thankful the Lord has worked it out for Mal to be home with him and we don't have to take him to a real daycare.
On Wed. Nana came into town to help with our transition. I know she really enjoyed getting to hold and play with Jonas. He has grown and changed a lot since she saw him during his first week of life.

beautiful weather

We had the nicest weather we've had all year on Sunday. It was Jonas' first time hanging out outside. As you can see he loved it -but it sure did wear him out looking at all the trees, the clouds and the bright blue sky. Bailey found all the shady spots since he still has a winter coat.

Our busy week

Mommy and Daddy go out for the first time without baby! Jonas had a great time playing at his aunt and uncle's house.
Jonas meets his Atlanta cousins, Katie and Rick. Mimi couldn't believe how much he had grown and changed since she last saw him - when he was one week old. I think he really likes Katie!
